Ready, set, clean! City Friends Club officially in action

Last Saturday the NGO City Friends Club crew once again grabbed its bags, booted up and headed to tackle yet another challenge in the name of environmental responsibility. This target area was Germasogia where after consulting the Municipality, they were requested to make it their starting point as it is a tourist magnet that gets really ugly, surprisingly fast. Each day they clean a new perimeter of Germasogia moving up west and towards the center of the municipality.

The philosophy of this bright bunch is to keep this city clean as everyone is entitled to garbage-free surroundings. The overall state of a city is a mirror of its civilians which goes to say it makes us Limasolians look even better.
During the cleaning process, everything that got collected gets sorted into PMD, general and bulky waste. Then the PMD waste is taken to their partner Greenpak for further processing. Bulky waste gets also sorted out at the site and later in the same day is taken out to other sorting stations.

Anything that remains, which very little of these remains is general waste, is then collected in bags and disposed safely into a landfill. In addition to all this work CFC clean parks from all types of waste including organic, meaning greens, leaves etc. It makes our parks look nice and tidy! Sadly, they came to the realization that it takes a lot of time, because almost every park they go to is in a poor condition. After all the organic waste is collected, it gets bagged up in special compostable bags and dropped off at predetermined locations for the municipality to collect it.

“So far I have not encountered anything that I did not expect. The work is proceeding as usual and the result is already visible! We have an excellent team that works together and harmoniously. Every day we face some small problems that we solve immediately!”

says Natalia, Operational Director

CFC has special trucks to keep Limassol clean. Their fleet consists of: refuse collectors with different volume of the container with and without press; a lorry tipper with and without crane and a pick-up truck with a crane and a van.
Today they have one brigade consisting of 2 drivers, 1 supervisor and 6 cleaners. By the end of the year, the plan is to expand the number of brigades.
