Solo Art Exhibition by Daria Fetisova
Duration: 9-24 February 2024
Opening event: Friday, February 9, 19.30
Daria Fetisova was born in Moscow and she is now based in Cyprus. In 2022 she graduated from the Moscow State Institute of Fine Arts, named by V. Surikov and received the Gold Medal of the Russian Academy of Arts for the best graduation work. Since 2021 she has been working as a lithography teacher at the Moscow State Institute of Fine Arts, named after V. Surikov. Daria had several solo shows and participated in group exhibitions, symposiums, biennale and art fairs in Russia and abroad since 2019. Her artworks are in the private collections in Russia, Argentina, Georgia, Armenia and Cyprus.
The artist considers that our main goal in life is to continuously strive to achieve the ideal, which consists of a balance of beauty of mind, soul and body. However, the main resource for this is the will, and unfortunately will, or rather its absence, can lead to the fact that a person is unable to achieve something.
In Modern Olympic Games Fetisova is trying to answer the question, what is will? Overcoming the maximum for the sake of a future goal becomes the main source of her inspiration. And the Olympic Games are the embodiment of this idea in reality.
The motto of the Olympic Games is “Citius, Altius, Fortius – Communiter” (latin), meaning “Faster, Higher, Stronger – Together”. The word “together” was added to the original motto “Faster, Higher, Stronger” in 2021. This word is particularly significant because since the time of Ancient Greece, the Olympic Games have united the people, ending all wars and strife. Artistic expression was also an important part of the games. Sculptors, poets, painters and other craftsmen came to the games to demonstrate their work.
A series of canvases representing the different sports of the contemporary Olympic Games with fragments of Cypriot landscapes will be presented by Daria Fetisova at the exhibition Modern Olympic Games. Additionally, a series of ceramic sculptures of gymnasts, pencil graphic works, a block of lithographs and lino prints will make up the show.
